Aberdare Fire Station Demolition and New Build

Project: Aberdare Fire Station

Location: Aberdare, South Wales

Client: South Wales Fire & Rescue

Project value: £2.1m

Project details

TC Consult were appointed as the Quantity Surveyor to deliver this complex project which involved demolition and new build works to the office / ancillary areas, refurbishment of the appliance bays and reconfiguration of the external roads and paved areas.

A particular challenge was to keep the fire station operation live during construction, so temporary accommodation unites were used alongside very careful phasing, strategic planning and continuous liaison with the station operations team.

The contract was delivered by Andrew Scott Contractors using a NEC Option B form of contract with full Bills of Quantities and constructed within a 60 week build period. The final account of £2.1m was in line with the contract sum of £2.1m which demonstrates solid design & cost control throughout the project.

The completed project achieved a BREEAM very good rating and was well received by the Client and local community.

Client review

“TC raise things along the way and give more than just the standard role, you don’t usually get that from the others. It’s almost like ‘phone a friend’ option and it’s worth its weight in gold. Service is always good and my colleagues like working with TC Consult as well, when you start to develop that relationship you just want it to continue.”
